Abstract

Incised wounds are common open injuries caused by sharp objects. Delayed treatment can increase the risk of infection and prolong the healing time. The use of natural ingredients such as celery (Apium graveolens) has become an attractive alternative due to its flavonoid, saponin, and tannin contents, which have activity in accelerating tissue regeneration. This study aims to determine the healing activity of an ethanolic extract gel of celery herb on incised wounds in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). The gel was prepared in three concentrations of celery extract: 1% (F1), 3% (F2), and 5% (F3). Evaluations included organoleptic testing, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesion, and viscosity. Wound-healing activity was assessed based on daily measurements of wound length until healed, then statistically analyzed using SPSS. The results showed that all formulas met the physical evaluation parameters and were declared stable in terms of organoleptic properties, pH, spreadability, adhesion, and viscosity. Formula 3 provided the fastest healing time and was not significantly different compared to the positive control.
